Popular Ollywood star Anubhav Mohanty is the official BJD candidate for the lone Rajya Sabha seat, elections for which will be held on June 19.
This was announced by Odisha chief minister and BJD president Naveen Patnaik, who returned to the state capital after a week-long Delhi trip today.
The seat had fallen vacant after AU Singhdeo was asked to vacate the seat and contest the Assembly polls from his old seat Bolangir, which he failed to retain this time.
It should be noted that Chief Minister and BJD chief Naveen Patnaik had already announced the name of Odia actor Anubhav Mohanty as the party’s candidate for the vacancy arising out of Singhdeo’s resignation.
Naveen’s move to nominate the political greenhorn over experienced and senior party leaders is believed to have been in line with his plan to sideline and eventually weed out the old guards from the party.
