National coach Pullela Gopichand visited upcoming Badminton academy in Bhubaneswar for the selection of players. The players will be groomed for the upcoming Olympics.
Badminton players in Odisha can now dream of better facilities and training as a state-of-the-art badminton academy will come up at Sahid Nagar Indoor Hall in May.
The quality of badminton in India has definitely improved since coaches like Gopichand and shuttlers like Saina, Sindhu and Srikanth have come to limelight, more and more kids are now starting to take up badminton professionally.
The Sports and Youth Services Department of Odisha in association with Sports Authority of India will set up the badminton academy. Altogether 24 shuttlers will stay in the academy. The infrastructure facility is here quite good.
“The important is to spotting a player at just the right time. The raw talent and physical attribute will be the key factor the select the inmates. New coaches will be joined in the academy, time to time I will come to join them as I am the mentor of SAI National Badminton academy,” said Gopichand.
