New version of Odia Raja song “Banaste Dakila Gaja” released by Radio Choklate online. Banaste Dakila Gaja is known as Odia Raja doli gita and girls sing it during the festival.
During Raja three days, women are given a break from household work. Girls decorate themselves with new fashion or traditional Saree and Alatha in feet. Girls play swings (doli) tied on tree branches whereas aged ladies play indoor games.
The Raja gita (a folk song) sung by the people is – Banaste dakila Gaja, barasake thare aasichhi Raja, asichi raja lo gheni nua sajabaja (meaning the Raja carnival has come with the pomp and pleasure of newness).
‘Andolan’ is an initiative by Radio Choklate to reintroduce good Odia music to listeners. As Andolan’s maiden project, Radio Choklate have remade our homegrown Raja anthem, ‘Banaste Dakila Gaja’ in a new flavor, on the occasion of Raja.
