Bhubaneswar Big Bazaar remained closed for the second day

Big Bazaar at Forum Mart, Bhubaneswar remained closed for the second consecutive day after the mall employees had allegedly manhandled some students of Utkal University on Saturday evening.

The students visited to the mall after an Odia post-graduate student, who was also working as part time with the food court at the mall, had been thrown out of his job.

The assaulted student Pabitra Mohanty of Kendrapara, alleged that the mall manager Pratyush Mohanty had been subjecting him to mental torture and suing slangs even on small matters.

He said that he was beaten up by some staffs of the mall when he resisted some slangs used by Mohanty on Saturday. He then called his friends in the university to protest against the assault of the mall staff.

“When we reached the mall to have a discussion on the matter, the mall employees misbehaved with us, and when we protested, they assaulted us with the help of bouncers,” alleged Pabitra Sahu, a university student.

Then the students of the university shut down the mall and did not allow people to go inside for several hours protesting against the assault. After getting information, city DCP Satyabrata Bhoi, along with local IIC, reached the spot and investigated the matter.

DCP said they had arrested nine people in this connection. “Adequate police personnel have been deployed at the spot to prevent any untoward situations,” said Bhoi.

The university students also demanded arrest of other staff members involved in the brawl. “Around 15 persons assaulted us, and so far, the police have arrested only nine of them. We demand immediate arrest of the others,” said a student.
