All India JEE (Main) to begin on April 7

Around 20,000 students from the state will appear in the first All-India Joint Entrance Examination (Main) for centrally-funded national technical institutions including NITs, IITs and other institutes. The examination will be held on April 7.

The students will have to carry the admit card or hall ticket of their Class XII or Plus II examination, according to a public notice issued on Monday by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).

“A large number of candidates have committed mistakes while submitting their roll numbers in the online forms. The hall ticket will ensure that they do not make any mistake in writing their roll numbers,” said a senior officer at CBSE regional office.

There are 33 centres in Rourkela for the offline examinations. While the first sitting will be between 9.30am and 12.30pm, the second will take place between 2pm and 5pm. Students opting for the online mode will appear for the test between April 8 and April 25. Electronic gadgets such as mobile phones or pen drives will not be allowed during the exam.

“We are expecting about 40,000 visitors to the city on April 6 and 7. Since all hotels and lodgings have already been booked for these two days we have made arrangements of the free accommodation of 3,000 candidates and their guardians in 39 places like kalyam mandaps, community halls, guest houses and so on,” said additional district magistrate (Rourkela) R N Mishra.

The roll number of qualifying exam is required because this is for the first time the scores of Class XII or qualifying examination will also be given weightage while determining the all-India rank in JEE (main). Students who have cleared the Class-XII or Plus Two examination have to submit a copy of their marksheet to the invigilator in the examination.

Apart from the IITs, National Institutes of Technology, Delhi Technological University and other centrally funded technical institutes have joined the JEE main this year. All colleges in Gujarat and Nagaland have also joined the JEE main.

Odisha has decided to join the JEE main and not hold Odisha JEE for its colleges from next year onwards.
