College Elections in Orissa set for October 19

The college elections across the State will be conducted on October 19. This was announced by the Higher Education Department on Monday.The notifications for the election will be issued on October 10. The elections would be held as per the guidelines of Lyngdoh Commission’s recommendations.

The nominations for different positions will be accepted on October 12. The scrutiny of nominations will be done on the same day from 2-4 pm. The list of candidates would be announced at 11 am on October 13. The candidates would be allowed to withdraw their nominations within 2 pm to 4 pm on the same day. The final list would be announced at 5 pm.

This year the elections in both the undergraduate and postgraduate colleges will be conducted simultaneously. ‘Why I Stand For’, an important part of the college elections where every candidate pitches for his candidature will take place on October 18.
College Elections in Orissa
The polling will be held from 8 am to 2 pm on October 19 and votes will be counted from 2 pm to 6 pm on the same day. The results will be declared on October 20.

There would be no political interference in the elections. The age limits for under graduate and graduate students must be within 15-22 and 24-25 respectively. The candidates must ensure 75 percent attendance. Candidates having criminal antecedents would not be allowed to contest elections. The maximum limits for expenditure for each candidate would be not more than Rs 5000. The candidates have to be abided by the model code of conduct.
