Pratap Keshari Deb, minister of State for Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare said – the digitisation of ration cards across Odisha will be completed by the end of the financial year 2013-14.
With the success of the ration card digitisation in Balangir block, the project would soon be taken up in the other districts as well.
However, minister admitted 2 per cent error in digitisation in Balangir and said efforts are on to make it foolproof before extending it to other districts.
He said after enactment of the proposed Food Security Act, ration cards will be issued to individuals.
The Minister said web-based supply chain management application has started in 54 depots in six districts and will be extended to the remaining 24 districts within two months.
Responding to a query, he said abolition of kerosene sub-wholesaler has been stayed by the Orissa High Court. However, it has been abolished in five districts.
With a bumper crop this kharif, the Minister said Government has decided to hire godowns from private parties. (Source – The Times of India)
