Narayana Hrudayalaya in Bhubaneswar

Narayana Hrudayalaya Group’s multi-speciality hospital in Bhubaneswar will be operational by December 2014, the hospital’s chairman Dr Devi Prasad Shetty told the Odisha government on Saturday.

Chief minister Naveen Patnaik laid the foundation stone for the project on its site near Kanungo Institute of Diabetes Specialties Hospital, around 2 km from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), in September, 2012.

The group would begin the construction work in October. In the first phase, it would commission a 250-300 bed hospital, offering neuro-surgery, heart and orthopaedic care. It would subsequently expand to 1,000 beds, the government statement said.

Health minister Damodar Rout expressed concerns over the delay in starting the construction work of the hospital and asked Shetty to expedite work in a meeting here.

The flagship hospital at NH Health City in Bangalore has India’s largest bone marrow transplant unit and dialysis unit with tertiary care expertise in liver, kidney and heart transplants.
