Students to pay less at OJEE counselling

To reduce the financial burden on the students appearing for Odisha Joint Entrance Examination (OJEE), the Policy Planning Body (PPB) has recommended to the State Government to charge only registration fee at the time of counselling of students this year.

Not all the students can afford high admission fee. Since most of them depend on the bank loans to pay their fees, PPB recommended that only the registration fees be accepted during counselling.

As per the recommendation, the students will be required to pay only the registration fee of Rs 5000 at the nodal centre while the admission fee of 11,000 will be deposited at their respective colleges after the admission.

Earlier, they had to pay the total 16,000 at the time of counselling. Out of it, OJEE paid 5,000 to the Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT) as registration fee while 11,000 went to the college where the student was taking admission.

The registration fee will be collected by OJEE as the banks usually require the final documents of admission to sanction loans.

PPB also recommended that verification of students’ marksheets during counselling should be done by their respective colleges.

As it has been found that some students had forged their markssheets to take admission last year, a proposal will be submitted to the State Government to hold respective colleges responsible for verification of marks of the student.
