Odia food items in frozen packs

Known for manufacturing and marketing typical Indian food ingredients for the last three decades, Odisha-based Om Oil & Flour Mills Ltd (OMFL), popularly known as “Ruchi” in Indian households, recently launched its new frozen ready-to-heat-and-eat food items in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar under the banner “Frozit”.

Traditional Odia cuisines like “pakhal” (water rice), “chingudi chura” (powdered fried prawn), “poda pitha” (baked cake) and “khiri” (kheer) would now be available in packets, and that too at affordable costs.

OMFL director Rashmi Sahoo said, “These are healthy cooked and frozen food items, which are packed at minus 18 degree Celsius. Prepared with olive oil and original food ingredients, this food would be cheap, healthy and quality stuff.”

Packed with vacuum packing technology, these ready to eat food items can be preserved for three to six months.

The company has installed an Rs 8 crore “multi-vac” machine and used German, Taiwanese and Italian technology to pack these frozen food items in special containers which can directly be put on microwaves and heated. The buyer can tear the top packing and consume the food from the same container.

Speaking about their target customers, Sahoo said, “We are targeting single men and women, working ladies, students staying in hostels. Those who consume fast foods and road side stuff like “dahi vada aloodum” and are forced to face health hazards, our food would be a very good alternative for them.” (Source – Times of India)
