Ekalabya Puraskar to Shriyanka Sadangi

International shooter Shriyanka Sadangi has been declared the winner of the prestigious ‘Ekalabya Puraskar’ for 2013 for her outstanding performance in sports.

Instituted in 1993 by Indian Metals Public Charitable Trust (IMPaCT), the award carries a cash award of Rs 2 lakh. The Ekalabya jury committee has also declared Odia sprinter Dutee Chand and weight-lifter Achytananda Sahu as citation winner which carries a cash award of Rs 50,000, a release issued by IMPaCT said.

The award is given every year to young sports persons of Odisha recognizing their outstanding performance in the preceding two years, a release from IMPaCT said on Sunday.

Shriyanaka has a brilliant national and international track record. She has won a gold medal in a Junior International Shooting championship held in Suhl, Germany, in June 2012 and gold in the fourth Asian Air Gun Shooting championship at Kuwait in October 2011.

Athlete Dutee Chand bagged gold medals in 100 and 200 metres at the ninth youths athlete meet, Bangalore, 2012. She won a gold in 100 metres and two silver in 200 meters and 4×100 meters relay respectively at the 37th Sr National Sports Festival 2012, Ranchi.

Achytananda Sahu won a Gold in 62 kg, lifting 95 kg Snatch and 125 kg in Jerk at the Commonwealth Jr Men Weight lifting Championship held at Apia in June 2012. He won a gold in 62 kg category, lifting 102 kg snatch and 130 Kg Jerk at the Jr Men Weight Lifting Championship at Capetown in October, 2011.

Shriyanka Sadangi originally hails from Sambalpur, Odisha. Now she stays with her father, mother and brother at Delhi.
