Suna Besha of Lord Jagannath 2012 Date
Suna besha of lord Jagannath is observed in the divine city of Puri. 29th June is the Bahuda Yatra when lords arrive at Jagannath temple after nine days stay at Gundicha temple. Thus the arrival of lord Balabhadra, Jagannath and devi Subhadra is celebrated as Suna Besa. Before entering to Shree Mandir, three deities are decorated with beautiful gold ornaments. The ornaments which the lords wear include golden crown, golden peacock feather, golden necklace and silver conch. All the ornaments are made up of solid gold and weigh about a ton.
Large number of devotees from around the world are coming to Puri to witness the Sunabesa of Lord Jagannath. The previous two days of suna besha, devotees are allowed to climb the chariot to pay homage to the deities. But on the day of suna besa festival, devotees are allowed to view the glorious deities from below the chariot only.
