Five Odia scientists received National Geoscience Awards – 2014 from the president Pranab Mukherjee at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Tuesday.
The awardees from Odisha are Biswajeet Lenka (Mineral Discovery & Exploration), Dr Muduru Lachhana Dora (Mineral Discovery & Exploration), Dr Simanchal Padhy (Geophysics / Applied Geophysics), Dr Swati Mohanty (Mineral Beneficiation) and Prof Rajeev Patnaik (Basic Geosciences).
The National Geoscience Awards, formerly known as the National Mineral Awards, was instituted by the Ministry of Mines in 1966, to honour individuals and teams of scientists for their extraordinary achievements and outstanding contributions in fundamental and applied geosciences and mining and allied fields.
Among the dignitaries present on the occasion were Narendra Singh Tomar, Union Minister of Steel & Mines and Vishnu Deo Sai, Minister of State for Steel & Mines.
A total 33 scientists from across the country received the award.
