Christians in Odisha, including communally sensitive Kandhamal district today observed Good Friday as a day of prayers and penitence shunning all worldly comforts to commemorate the sufferings and crucifixion of Jesus Christ.
Christians started their day with fasting and visited churches across the city to offer prayers. Some even fasted for around 40 days before Good Friday in keeping with tradition during the season of Lent.
Prayer meetings, Carol Community songs, Fasting prayers were held and 7th Statements of dying Christ read as part of the Good Friday.
Elaborate security arrangement were made at different places keeping in view of the sensitivity of the area in Kandhamal and other parts of the state.
The community will celebrate the resurrection of Christ on Easter Sunday.
