Odisha’s para-athlete Jayanti Behera has done the State proud bagging silver medal in the 100-meter race and gold medals in 200m and 400m race in the Asian Youth Para Games, 2017 held in Dubai recently.
“Scintillating performance by Jayanti Behera at Asian Youth Para Games 2017, Dubai. After silver in 100m, she has gone on to clinch gold in 200m and 400m. I join the people of Odisha in congratulating her for her overwhelming achievement. Keep inspiring, champion Jayanti,” wrote CM Naveen Patnaik on Facebook.
Jayanti clinched the second spot clocking a timing of 13.48 seconds. Japan’s Misu Honoka with 13.45 seconds was first and Nakagawa Moe with 14.24 seconds was third.
Earlier, Jayanti had clinched gold for India in 400-metre event at the World Junior Para Athletic Championships held in Switzerland in August. She had also won gold medal at the China Open Para Athletic Grand Prix Championship in May.
Worth mentioning, Jayanti’s left hand and waist were burnt in a fire mishap when she was just one-year-old. Hailing from a poor family, she braved all odds to rise to such heights.
