Nandankanan to get yellow Anacondas in animal exchange programme

The inmates of Odisha’s Nandankanan Zoo may soon find company of two giant yellow anacondas.

Replying to a written question on Tuesday, Forest and Environment Minister Bikram Keshari Arukh told the state assembly that soon a number of new species including the rare yellow anacondas will be brought to the Nandankanan Zoological Park (NZP) in a major animal exchange programme.

Two male and two female white peacocks and two yellow anacondas will be brought from Chennai, as a part of the exchange programme. Besides, a male tiger will be gifted by the Hyderabad Nehru Zoological Park.

In his report, the minister mentioned that a red tiger will be arriving at the NZP soon.

The Nandankanan Zoo will also be shifting four reticulated pythons from Chennai – two male and two female respectively, while exchanging three hippopotamus – two female and one male including a male Siamese crocodile to Arignar Anna Zoological Park, he added.

The Nandankanan Zoological Park (NZP) officials have also agreed to send three bears – two male and one female – to Nawaz Wazir Ali Shah Zoological Park in Lucknow in the exchange programme, he concluded.
