NIT Rourkela’s Team Tiburon wins first prize in SAVe 2019 Competition

Team Tiburon, a robotics team from National Institute of Technology (NIT) Rourkela, has won the first prize at the 6th National Competition on Student Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (SAVe 2019) jointly with IIT Bombay.

Since its inception in October 2014, Team Tiburon, the official Autonomous Underwater Vehicle team of NIT Rourkela has been bagging laurels through its unwavering hard work and determination.

The preparations for this event longed back to the three rounds of qualification where the team had to submit a Preliminary Design Report and a Conceptual Design Report followed by an Oral Presentation Round held during the first week of August. A total of 14 teams were qualified for the competition including various IITs.

ESSO-National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT), under the Ministry of Earth Sciences has organised the Sixth National Student Autonomous underwater Vehicle Competition for students pursuing engineering degree to visualize and design an autonomous underwater vehicle.

The main focus of this competition was to involve students on the new frontier areas of ocean technology and kindle their innovative thinking in this unexplored area of ocean environment and observation. NIOT would support the winning team of the National Competition SAVe 2019, by sponsoring any two members of the team to participate in the International competition being held annually in AUVSI foundation San Diego, USA during July 2019.
