Odisha boy secures 9th rank in Civil Services Examinations 2016

Suman Sourav Mohanty, a mechanical engineering graduate, secured 9th rank in the civil services examinations-2016, the results of which was announced by the Union Public Services Commission (UPSC) on Wednesday. Nandini KR of Karanataka has topped the exam.

31-year-old Mohanty is son of Shantanu Mohanty a retired OAS officer and Kabita Mohanty, a homemaker. Mohanty, an Indian Revenue Services officer had earlier qualified Odisha Civil Services and served in Kandhamal district for six months before he secured rank 413 in the Indian civil services examination last year.

“I owe my success to the people of Odisha, lord Jagannath and my parents. I always wanted to work for people of my state. Three major strengths of Odisha is community spirit, rich natural resources and simplicity,” said Mohanty.

Mohanty passed BTech from KIIT University in mechanical engineering from 2008 and worked for Reliance Energy and Odisha government’s public health department. “I have always wished to become an IAS officer. I used to study for six to eight hours a day. My major inspiration is my mother,” said Mohanty.

Apart from Mohanty three others from Odisha have also scored among the 1099 candidates including 846 men and 253 women in the merit list. Other Odias who have qualified in the exam include Avishyant Panda in rank 91, Subhankar Mohapatra rank 255 and Suchismita Kanungo in 261 rank.
