Odisha Civil Services preliminary examination : new merit list

The Odisha State Administrative Tribunal (SAT) directed Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC) to re-evaluate answer sheets of 2011 Odisha Civil Services (OCS) preliminary examination.

SAT also directed OPSC to prepare a fresh merit list within two months.

Acting chairman of the tribunal S N Das gave the direction, hearing a batch of petitions filed by OCS aspirant Priyambada Das and a few others, challenging the merit list. The petitioners alleged some students have got grace marks in OAS Preliminary exam due to appearing for wrong questions and were selected into the merit list.

The tribunal observed that granting grace marks for every wrong question was illegal and arbitrary, said Himanshu Mishra, counsel of a petitioner.

The petitioner had filed a similar petition in Odisha High Court, but as the matter was pending before the SAT, the HC refused to entertain it. The HC had directed SAT to give its verdict by August 28.
