Odisha: Now construct concrete house with 20% lesser cost

In its bid to promote affordable housing for rural poor through demonstration of appropriate rural housing technologies, the Odisha government has come up with a Rural Technology Park. It will showcase technologies adopted for construction of low-cost concrete houses.

Odisha government has set up the Rural Technology Park on the campus of State Institute of Rural Development (SIRD) in Bhubaneswar. The park will impart the technical support and training to the beneficiaries of various housing schemes.

By using the construction materials produced through the new technology, a concrete house can be constructed within two months and with 20 per cent lesser cost, said Odisha panchayati raj Secretary Deo Ranjan Kumar Singh.

Four low cost housing models developed by Roorkee-based Central Building Research Institute (CBRI) are on display while efforts are on to add two more designs within next 2-4 months, said Superintending Engineer Siba Narayan Barik.

A beneficiary of the rural housing and toilet scheme gets an assistance of Rs 1.59 lakh. Besides, he is entitled to an incentive of Rs 20,000 as the construction will be completed within two month. The incentive can be utilised for additional construction, said a senior government officer.

The technical support and training will be imparted free of cost to various self-help groups at block and gram panchayat levels. Odisha CM announces Rs 1.5 crore cash award for Dutee Chand
