Odisha’s Nuagaon becomes first cashless village after demonetisation

Nuagaon village under the Satyabadi block of Puri district becomes first cashless village in Odisha after demonetisation.

With a view to fulfil Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal to go for digital transactions across the country, all payments in the village are being done through e-wallet money.

Traders, tea shops, vegetable and fruit vendors, and others providing goods and services in Nuagaon village are using smartphones for cashless transactions.

An initiative by the district administration and Common service centers (CSCs), the 300-odd population of Nuagaon village have agreed to adopt cashless transaction to meet ends. It is going to get the tag to be the first cashless village in Odisha under Digi Dhan Abhiyan of the central government.

“There is no problem accepting money through e-wallet. The people are accustomed to the digital payment system,” said Niranjan Das, a betel shop owner of the village.

The employees of Common service centers organized camps, workshops and awareness programs for citizens in the village for creating awareness on digital finance services.

In 1999, Nuagaon village was declared as the model village in the state for its achievements in sanitation facilities, cleanliness, and pollution free environment.
