Odisha govt cuts bus fares by 1-2 paisa per km

Odisha govt announced further reduction in the bus fares today in view of cut in the price of diesel.

Announcing a cut of 1 paise per km in fares for ordinary and express buses and 2 paise per km for deluxe and AC deluxe buses in the state, Commerce and transport minister Ramesh Chandra Majhi said the revised fares will be effective from today.

Diesel prices fell by Rs 2.25 on October 31 for the second time in the last one month.

Now, the passengers will have to pay 62 paise per km to travel in ordinary buses whereas express buses will charge 85 paise per km. In case of deluxe buses, the fare will now charge 85 paise per km whereas AC deluxe buses will ask passengers to pay Rs 1.04 per km.

On October 29, the Odisha government had announced a marginal cut in bus fares after a decrease in diesel price by Rs 3.63 per litre.

The minister informed that the government is yet to take a decision on the demand for a mechanism for automatic revision of bus fares in consonance with any hike and fall in diesel prices as suggested by the private bus owners’ association.
