Odisha govt to recruit 16601 Sikshya Sahayaks

School and mass education secretary Usha Padhee said – Odisha government will recruit 16,601 sikshya sahayaks at a base salary of Rs 5,200 per month during the current fiscal.

The notification will be issued within a week and the process will be completed within two months. There are around 36,137 vacant posts of teachers in primary schools across the state.

“Recruitment would be done on merit basis by the district level committee headed by district collectors,” Padhee said.

From total approved 16,601 sikshya sahayak posts, around 8,300 would be appointed from among trained graduates candidates and those with Bachelor of Education (BEd) qualification in Telugu and Bengali languages.

The remaining 8,301 sikshya sahayak posts would be filled up by candidates from arts and science streams in the Plus II level or with certified teacher (CT) training in Telugu, Urdu and Bengali languages.

In July this year, the state government appointed as many as 13,578 sikshya sahayaks. More 19,536 sikshya sahayaks would be recruited in the third phase, official source said.

In a related development, the government also decided to conduct the Odisha Teacher Eligibility Test (OTET) test, a qualifying test for teaching job aspirants, twice in a year.
