Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for each of the seriously injured in the flood that wreaked havoc in many parts of Odisha.
Expressing his condolence for the loss of lives in the recent floods in Odisha, the PM announced that the compensation would be provided from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund and will be disbursed directly to the district collectors.
The PM also spoke to Union minister of state for petroleum and natural gas Dharmendra Pradhan and sought information on the situation arising out of the floods.
According to Odisha government sources, about 45 persons have lost their lives due to different reasons during the heavy rains and flood.
However, the state government has yet to announce any ex-gratia for the deceased.
