Biopic on life of eminent Odia sculptor Raghunath Mohapatra

A biopic would soon be made on the life of eminent Odia sculptor Raghunath Mohapatra. The President of India, Ram Nath Kovind recently nominated him to Rajya Sabha.

Mohapatra was felicitated at a function in Rotary Club of Puri. Speaking on the occasion, Raghunath highlighted his journey from being a school drop-out to become one of the most prolific sculptors in the country in the face of adversities.

Mohapatra said as a youngster, he used to sculpt small statues and sold them at Badadanda till he left Puri in 1959. The sculptor said he has never looked back since then.

Giving a brief outline of his dream Aditya Narayan temple, he said its foundation stone was laid on Ratha Jatra day and hundreds of acres of land have been bought near Satyabadi along Puri-Bhubaneswar Highway for the temple complex. Mohapatra said the temple would resemble the Sun temple at Konark.

Raghunath Mohapatra was felicitated at the function, organised by Odisha Heritage Conservation Council in association with Rotary Club of Puri, along with his octogenarian gurus Bhasker Mahapatra and Shyamsundar Mahapatra.
