Snana Yatra Debasnana Purnima 2023 Date

The Snana Purnima of Lord Jagannath is an important event in the run-up to the Puri Rath Yatra. Debasnana Purnima 2023 date is 4th June (Sunday). You can watch Snana Yatra live telecast below. It is ceremonial public bath ceremony of the three deities.

Every year on Snan Yatra, Lord Balabhadra, Mahaprabhu Jagannath & Devi Subhadra and Chakradhar Sudarsan, take a ceremonial bath with 108 pitchers of sacred water. Lakhs of devotees from all over Odisha and neighboring states gather in the Pilgrim Town to witness the bathing ceremony on Deva Snana Purnima. The Snana Yatra, to be held at the Sri Mandir premises, telecasts live on Doordarshan, OTV, Prarthana TV, Zee Sarthak, Colors Odia, Star Kiran, Sidharth TV, Sidharth Bhakti, News18 odia, Kalinga TV, Kanak News, Naxatra News, Prameya News7, MBC TV, Nandighosha TV, Argus News and Jay Jagannath TV channel.

The day, the full-moon day of the month of Jyestha is considered to be the birth-day of Lord Jagannath. Debasnana Purnima is an important festival of Puri Jagannath temple prior to Ratha Jatra scheduled for June 20. The details of the rituals and the timings of Snana Yatra 2023 was decided at a meeting of the Niti Sub-Committee of the temple administration and Chhattisha Nijog, the apex body of the servitors.

Schedule of Snan Yatra 2023

As per the Snana Jatra schedule, Jalabije ritual will be performed between 9.30 am and 11.30 am. It would be followed by Chhera Panhara at 12.15 pm and Hati Besa of the deities between 12.30 and 2.30 pm. Public darshan of the deities (Sahana Mela Darshan) on the Snana Bedi (bathing altar) would be held from 6 pm to 9.30 pm.

Late in the night, the deities would be shifted to the Anasara Gruha (sick room) inside the temple at 10 pm. Like previous years, the deities would recline to bed for 15 days. In this period, devotees will visit Alarnath temple in Brahmagiri to have a darshan of Lord Alarnatha.

A five-tier security arrangement has been made by Odisha Police for Snana Yatra. For the proper implementation and execution of the Police Arrangement, 60 platoons of police force, 550 Home Guards, 300 sub-inspector (SI) and assistant sub-inspector (ASI), 100 supervisory officers, and three commandants have been assigned. The Puri Police also released a set of guidelines to ensure smooth traffic movement for public convenience.

  • Regular passenger buses from the Bhubaneswar Konark side will not be restricted from entering the regular Municipality bus stand. Buses coming from Bhubaneswar and other locations will be diverted accordingly.
  • Shuttle buses and auto rickshaws from Puri Town will be permitted up to Majana Jaga on Badadanda.
  • Two-wheelers will be permitted to park on Badadanda from Market Square to Nayak Plaza on a first-come, first-served basis and will be diverted accordingly.
  • All LMV/Cars/SUVs will be able to park at Jagannath Ballav, Bagala Dharmasala parking, Saradhabali, Blue Flag Beach, and Hotel Nilachal Ashok. They will be diverted based on the availability of parking spaces.
  • According to the traffic mobility plan, vehicular traffic will be regulated from 12.00 hours on June 3 to the end of Snana Purnima on June 4. Depending on traffic flow, traffic restrictions may be lifted.
  • No vehicle zone will be ensured from Market Chakka to Jaga Balia lodge to ensure smooth darshan of the Lords by the deities.
