Sudarsan Pattnaik creates world’s tallest sandcastle at Puri beach

Sudarsan Pattnaik, internationally acclaimed sand artist from Odisha, creates world’s tallest sandcastle at Puri sea beach on Friday.

Sudarsan and his students sculpted a 47-feet-high sand castle at the sea beach, for which he has initiated preparations a week before. The giant sculpture is created on an area of half an acre near Hotel Mayfair in Puri. The required amount of sand is gathered at the spot through a dozer.

The current Guinness world record for tallest sandcastle is 13.97 m (45 ft 10.25 in) tall and was created by Ted Siebert (USA) of the Sand Sculpture Company and a crew of 19 on behalf of Turkish Airlines, in Virginia Key Beach, Miami, Florida, USA, on 27 October 2015. Using 1,800 tonnes of imported sand, the team worked for two weeks to create the tallest sandcastle.

Pattnaik’s sand art bears the message of world peace along with faces of Mahatma Gandhi and Nelson Mandela carved on it. “I hope my sand art will break the record and bring laurels to the country,” Sudarsan Pattnaik said.
