Tourism Plaza in Bhubaneswar to help tourists

A multi-storied Tourism Plaza and Visitors’ Centre, a one stop information hub for Odisha’s tourism products, will be set up in capital Bhubaneswar soon.

Tourism minister Ashok Panda said three sites were under consideration and one of the sites would be selected to set up the Plaza.

“We have seen the sites near AG square, Unit-VIII and Bhanja Kala Mandap. The general administration (GA) department will take a final call on the matter and allot one site to the tourism department. I hope the process will be completed within a month,” said Panda.

Tourism and Culture Secretary Dr Arvind Padhee said that the proposed tourism complex would be in operation within next two years.

The complex would act as a single-window to showcase the State’s tourism and tourism infrastructure, accommodate souvenir shops, accommodate tourist offices of Odisha and other States and Government of India and all stakeholders agencies in the sector. “It would be a one-stop place to provide information relating to tourism,” Dr Padhee said.

The Odisha Tourism Department is also planning to urge their counterparts in other States, which receive the maximum number of Odia tourists, to set up their centres at the plaza.

“There is a lot of outbound tourism to places like New Delhi, Shirdi, Tirupati and West Bengal from Odisha. This way, we can integrate information from our counterparts in other States which would help Odia tourists,” said Secretary of the Department, Arvind Padhee.

The major objective of the infrastructure is to help increase the tourist inflow, stimulate economic growth and generate substantial employment opportunities in the sectors like hotel, transport, shopping, food and entertainment, he said.
