Victim’s father seeks withdrawal of case filed against Papu Pom Pom

The ‘casting couch’ case of comedian Papu Pom Pom took a new turn on Monday as the victim’s father filed a petition in the court urging to reject the earlier petition against the Odia actor. He sought to withdraw the case filed against Papu Pom Pom.

“Father of the victim filed an affidavit in the court saying ‘we do not want to proceed any further in the case since the matter has been amicably settled among both the parties’,” said Friends Foundation secretary Babita Kar, who had filed the complaint against Papu Pom Pom in the Mahila police station on behalf of the victim.

Notably, Papu along with his associate Pradeep Swain are in judicial custody after police arrested him on charges of sexually exploiting a minor girl by giving false promise to cast her in films.

The court on Monday deferred the bail plea of Papu Pom Pom to July 11 as the police could not submit the case diary.

The Commissionerate Police has registered a case against the actor under Sec 354 (A), 506, 509 of IPC and Sec 8, 12 and 17 of the Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Legal experts are of the opinion that the charges against Papu are all cognisable offences and compromise cannot be reached in such cases.
