Vocational courses in Plus 2 and Plus 3 from 2015-16

The Odisha government decided to introduce vocational courses in Plus 2 and Plus 3 level in all government and private colleges across the state from the 2015-16 academic year.

Chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday approved a proposal of higher education department in this regard.

While 12 courses would be introduced at Plus Two level, the government is planning to introduce 10 courses at graduation level.

The courses to be introduced at the Plus 2 level are Tourism & Travel Management, Fashion Technology, Office Management, Banking, Automobile Technology, Dairying, Printing Technology, Horticulture, Domestic Electrical Appliances, Information Technology, Mobile Technology and Paramedical Healthcare.

The courses included at the Plus Three level are Financial Literacy & Banking, Domestic Electrical Appliances, Fashion Technology, Food Processing and Preservation, Horticulture, Information & Communication Technology, Modern Office Management, Printing Technology & Desk Top Publication, Paramedical Healthcare and Travel & Tourism Management.

The Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) and universities will conduct examinations in these subjects and award certificates to qualifying candidates. Students can take these subjects as elective subjects.

With a huge number of lecture posts are lying vacant in a number of government colleges, the state government is planning to appoint contract lecturers before introducing the courses, sources in the higher education department said.

Since skill based courses are playing an important role in human resource development, the new courses are expected to be increase the employability of students in the state.
