Amul announces to invest Rs 250 crore in Odisha’s dairy sector

Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd (Amul) announced to invest around Rs 250 crore in dairy sector in Odisha during the World Food India – an international mega food festival at New Delhi on Saturday.

Amul managing director R.S. Sodhi announced it at a seminar on “Opportunities for Food Processing in Odisha”. Sodhi said Odisha was the second biggest market for Amul in the country, and there was a supply gap of 30 lakh litres of milk per day at present in the state.

Apart from Amul, several other companies in food processing industry expressed their interest in investing in Odisha. INDO-Nissin Foods disclosed their plans to expand their capacity from this existing plant at 12 tons per day. Similarly, Keventer Agro Ltd expressed its intent to set up a unit for maize processing, promote Banana cultivation and set up a food processing laboratory in the state.

TATA Global Beverages Ltd has also shortlisted Odisha as the potential location for setting up of a tea packaging unit over 20 acres of land with an investment of Rs 40 crore and employment to 400 people. AGT Foods, along with their co-promoters based in Canada said it want to make an investment of Rs 250 crore near Paradeep in food processing unit.

“Odisha got overwhelming response at the World Food India Expo and encouraging investment offers from various national and international food companies,” said MSME secretary LN Gupta.
