Odisha govt is trying to start Bhubaneswar to Thailand and Bhubaneswar to Dubai direct flight service from the Biju Patnaik International Airport before the Nabakalebar festival.

Recently Odisha Tourism Minister Ashok Panda met Union Tourism minister Mahesh Sharma, Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapati Raju, Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and chiefs of Indigo and Air India to push for international flight operations from Bhubaneswar Airport.

He assured the companies of all possible cooperation from the state government’s side and informed them about the preparedness of the airport and infrastructure to handle international flights.

Air India (AI) is conducting a feasibility study to connect Bhubaneswar to the Mumbai-Dubai route in its bid to improve connectivity to the State. AI has written to the State Government to create necessary infrastructure to make the connectivity successful if it works out well.

Panda said some of the private airlines are also studying the feasibility of connecting Kolkata to Bangkok through Bhubaneswar.

It may be noted that the state government has been repeatedly lobbying for international flight operations after the airport got its international status.

Minister Panda has been pointing out that, the tourism sector of the state will be heavily affected if the operations are not started before the Nabakalebar.
