Bus fare hike in Odisha with effect from 1 September

Odisha government has given nod to the demand of bus fare hike by All Odisha Private Bus Owners Association by hiking the bus price by 5 to 8 paise per kilometer with effect from September 1.

The fares have been hiked following private bus owners’ proposed state-wide strike on Wednesday.

As per the notification issued by the commerce and transport department, the fare has been hiked by 5 to 8 paise per kilometre. While the fare of the ordinary passenger and express bus is raised by five paise, there has been increase of seven paise for deluxe buses and eight paise per kilometre for AC buses.

The passengers will now pay 64 paise per km for ordinary passenger buses, 67 paise per km for express buses, 89 paise for deluxe buses and Rs 1.08 for AC buses, the notification said.

The private bus fare was last revised in October last year when the diesel price was Rs 55.63 a litre. Over the past 10 months, diesel price has gone up by Rs 7.26 a litre. The private bus owners had been demanding a fare revision for the last two months.

The passengers, however, are not happy with the bus fare hike. They said that this would put extra financial burden on them.
