Celebrate Mother’s Day today

Mother’s Day celebrates today and shops & food outlets in the cities are prepared to cash in on the trend. Florists, bakeries, card shops, jewellery shops, spas and restaurants are ready for the occasion.

Mother’s Day has become more and more popular among the youth over the past few years, thanks to television commercials, advertisements and various contests in newspapers. Many restaurants, jewellery shops and spas in the city have are now offering discounts for the occasion. Teenagers are showing great interest in the day.

While some women felt there is no need for a special day to thank mothers, others said that it is a special occasion to celebrate the most wonderful relationship.

Smita Sahu, an assistant engineer in R&B division and a mother of Prapti (8) and Ayush (5), said, “A mother and child relationship does not need any special day for celebrations. When I see my kids smile after I return home, everyday, I feel their love is the greatest thing that could have happened to me. These commercial activities can never give the same happiness.”

Some women, however, felt Mother Day has a place of its own. “It really feels great when your children bring some gifts for you or ‘thanks’ you for taking all the pain for their upbringing,” Dr Seba Mohapatra, former director of health department, said.

“I know a mother’s love cannot be repaid but if we can make her feel special by presenting her a gift, what’s wrong in it. I have bought a beautiful card for her and would treat her to her most-loved sweets,” said Priti Ranjan Rout, a Class XII student. (Source – The Times of India)
