Time for secured Government jobs
Government sector jobs have become more attractive. “There has been a tremendous increase in the number of applications at the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) in the last three years,†said SSC chairman N.K. Raghupathy. The SSC makes recruitments for Group B non-gazetted and Group C non-technical posts to various government departments. “Employees in IT majors such as Infosys, Wipro, Accenture and others are turning to government jobs. The candidates are getting absorbed in various positions in Auditor General’s office, CBI and customs,†he said.
However, the commission does not get satisfactory response to job advertisements from Odisha compared to other states, said chairman of the commission, N K Raghupathy. He also alleged that the state government is not cooperating with the commission to create awareness about openings.
Although, the number of applicants in Odisha have jumped from 30,680 in 2009-10 to 1,40,423 in 2011-12, the government has shown “poor response’ in appointing the candidates selected by the recruiting agency, said an official.
“There has been a tremendous surge in the number of applications as well as recruitments in the SSC. This is attributed to revamped examination system and introduction of test in vernacular language,” Raghupathy said and added, “Notwithstanding the surge, Odisha is a deficit state with poor response.”
The main reason for this, he said, lack of coordination between the SSC and the state government. “The state government has a major role to play for conducting recruitment drives and make proper advertisement and publicity for job opportunities. We have written several letters to Odisha government and also asked it to appoint a nodal officer, but no action has been taken in this regard,” he maintained.
While only 196 candidates of the total 30,680 candidates were appointed in 2010, 300 out of 64,461 candidates were appointed in 2011. Only 1,211 candidates of the 1,40,423 have been recommended for appointment by the government this year, the SSC data revealed.
“Despite several attempts in the past two years, the Odisha chief secretary cannot afford time to meet our team,†said Raghupathy.
The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) announced on Monday about the recruitment drive for 21,000 vacant constable (general duty) posts in Central Armed Police Forces and riflemen in Assam Rifles. It will be conducted in 2013.
For the recruitment conducted for the constable post in 2011, around 23,955 applicants appeared from the State out of which 849 male and only 36 female candidates got the appointment recommendation. In 2012 of the 69,224 applicants, 1,710 males and 58 females received the appointment recommendation.
