Puri railway station gets free Wi-Fi service before Rath Yatra festival

Puri railway station gets free Wi-Fi service ahead of the nine-day Rath Yatra festival starting July 6.

Railway minister Suresh Prabhu had promised to make Puri station Wi-Fi-enabled before the festival. Now pilgrims visiting Puri can enjoy free Wi-Fi at Puri station as Railways had commissioned the service.

Presently, the service is provided for free of cost. The project is implemented by internet major Google and government-owned Mini-Ratna company RailTel under the ministry of railways. The facility will benefit lakhs of visitors at the station, official sources said.

Use of the Wi-Fi service is very easy. Passengers inside the station could find ‘Railwire’ Wi-Fi network on their smart phones and laptops to get internet access. After connecting the network, passengers will be asked to enter mobile number to get a four digit one-time-password (OTP). The Wi-Fi will be enabled in the phone or laptop immediately after entering the OTP.

ECoR chief public relations officer JP Mishra said passengers can use the service at any time in the station. We have commissioned the service at Puri. We will be giving extra attention during Rath Yatra for its smooth run, he added.
