IIM permanent campus in Bhubaneswar

The Odisha government has decided to set up the permamnent campus of the proposed Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in Bhubaneswar, a reliable source said.

Sources maintained that the State Government has already finalised three locations on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar – Gothapatna, Argul and Jatni. A formal proposal to this effect will be sent soon to the Union Human Resources Development (HRD).

The government has zeroed in on locations around Bhubaneswar due to availability of infrastructural facilities like international airport and express train connectivity, as desired by the HRD ministry.

Earlier this year, the state government had identified 12 locations from six districts for establishment of the IIM.

But when the HRD ministry insisted that the IIM must be situated within one hour journey from the airport, the state government selected Bhubaneswar as the prime location.

IIM Odisha has already been added as a choice for candidates appearing the Common Aptitude Test (CAT) this month.

  1. Thank goodness that the state government chose the site wisely, without surrendering to regional politics. Let us keep politics away from world class educational institutions. Any location for the upcoming IIM in that state outside Bhubaneshwar city would doom the institution to perpetual mediocrity. No qualified IIM faculty would opt to reside in a small town with no facilities and no IIM aspirant would like to study in such a place either. The IIMs are there to serve the entire state, neighbouring areas of the region and the entire nation.
