Reliance Jio’s free voice call and data offer is vaild only till December 3, says Trai.
Jio’s welcome offer will now end on December 3 instead of December 31 because apparently Jio cannot offer free services for more than 90 days. The offer was launched on September 5 and hence it had to close by December 3.
Trai made this observation following a representation by incumbent telecom operators against Jio’s promotional offer of free voice, which they alleged was violating the regulator’s tariff order.
In its observation, which was intimated to Airtel, Vodafone India, Idea Cellular, Telenor India and Videocon Telecom, Trai said, “The revised offer of free services by Jio has been limited to 90 days i.e. up to December 3, 2016, and, therefore, is consistent with the guidelines on promotional offers.”
Jio has confirmed that the Welcome Offer will end on December 3. But it adds that those who already subscribe to it will continue to get free unlimited data and free unlimited calls until December 31. Those who want to join the Jio network after December will have to subscribe to a commercial plan.
“As per RJIL’s filing with the TRAI, the JIO WELCOME OFFER (JWO) will be available to all the customers for subscription till December 3, 2016. RJIL wishes to reconfirm that JWO benefits of free unlimited voice and data will continue to be available to all subscribers till December 31, 2016. The consumers, who cannot subscribe to the RJIL services till 3rd December 2016 will continue getting opportunities to avail new offers and tariff plans from RJIL,” said a Jio spokesperson.
