Microsoft to train meritorious Odisha students in computer skills
Microsoft will offer certification programme to train meritorious Odisha students in basic computer skills. The training will be provided to those students who have been selected to get laptops under the Biju Youth Empowerment Scheme.
In a move likely to fine-tune the future of the students, the State Higher Education department issued a notification to offer the free Microsoft certification programme. “This year, Microsoft has included a certification programme on Microsoft Office Examination (MS Word, MS Excel, MS Power Point) as a value addition for students who are going to receive Laptops under Biju Yuva Sashaktikarana Scheme 2017-18,” the notification read.
The three-month certification programme would train the students in basic computer skills using Microsoft Office package that includes word, excel and power point and after successfully clearing the MS Office exam they will be awarded certificates directly from the global IT giant Microsoft.
Pearson, the Microsoft certification partner, will host the examination during December, January and February following which the students will receive the certificates.
“This programme will help students in academics and to get jobs,” said Mihir Das, office-in-charge, performance tracking cell of the higher education department.
Laptops will be distributed to 15,000 students in various colleges across the state. It will be provided to those students who have cleared the board examinations in first division this year, an official said.
