Minor boy tortured in Odisha’s Hirakud police station video

A minor boy was tortured mercilessly by cops of the Hirakud police station in Odisha’s Sambalpur district.

On Tuesday, the highhandedness of the police came to fore when a private TV channel telecast a visual in which cops were seen brutally assaulting a 15-year-old boy by tying his hands and legs in at the Hirakud police station.

Soruces said the incident had occurred in September last year and police had detained the juvenile on the charges of stealing a mobile phone. The 15-year-old boy was released after two days of inhuman torture after paying a bribe of Rs 6,000 on September 19.

Meanwhile, human rights campaigner Biswapriya Kanungo has moved the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) seeking its intervention in the inhuman attitude of the police.

The Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) has sought report from the northern range (Sambalpur) DIG and SP within four weeks. The commission has posted January 22 for the next hearing.
