No Helmet, No Petrol rule in Odisha to control road accidents

The Odisha government on Friday asked police to take up the “No Helmet, No Petrol” initiative as a public movement and ensure its implementation in petrol outlets across the state as a road safety measure.

The suggestion of a campaign was given by Chief Secretary A P Padhi while reviewing implementation of road safety measures in the state at a high level meeting.

Padhi said the goal to reduce road accidents could be achieved only if transport, police and works departments work together towards implementation of road safety measures and enforcement of rules.

Padhi also directed to set up a trauma care center in Capital Hospital and assured that necessary fund support would be provided by the state government for the purpose. He said that so far 8 trauma care centres have been set up in various places for taking care of the accident victims while proposal has been prepared for setting up another eight.

Both Police and Transport department will work together to look after the issues related to checking of drink and drive, traffic violations and identifying black spots on the National Highways.
