Popular Odia Jatra troupes are performing at Khandagiri Mela with catchy titles and themes that reflect contemporary reality.
A jatra enthusiast said there were some titles that were absolutely raunchy such as Ratira Tati and Mu Mantrinka Bohu to be staged by the Jatra Sachidanand. Tulasi Gananatya’s productions such as Badnam Badshah, Phula Hela Phasi Daudi and Chhatara Toka will be staged at the event.
One of the troupes had planned to stage a play titled Anganwadi Didi. However, a section of women activists and anganwadi workers had opposed the name and burnt the posters outside Khandagiri police station.
The Eastern Red has plays titled such as Call Girl, Lady Don, Asuchhi Mangal Grahara Jhia and Basantira Chithi Mukhyamantrinku, while the Eastern Blue will stage plays such as Baje Jhiara Love Story, Mu Balasore Bohu, Sabi Lo Tote Jogani Khau and Balatkariku Phasi Dia.
Around 12 jatra troupes would stage their plays at six locations near Khandagiri for 12 days. The Khandagiri Mela Jatra festival would draw its curtains on February 8.
