Two bank looters were thrashed to death and another injured by the public while they were attempting to flee after committing robbery at the branch of a nationalized bank in Nayagarh district of Odisha today.
“This is the result of the immediate reaction of the public before police reached the spot. The injured have been immediately shifted to the hospital. Two persons have died and the third is undergoing treatment for his injuries. An FIR has been registered on the basis of the complaint of the bank’s manager,” informed Kanwar Vishal Singh, SP Nayagarh to reporters.
“Investigation is on and action will be taken on the basis of the findings. A live bomb, a sharp-edged weapon and a bhujali have been seized from the dacoits. Prima facie it appears that they attacked the public on being restrained from looting and then were beaten by the public. Detailed investigations will reveal exact details,” he added.
According to reports, three bike-borne armed robbers at around 3 PM in the afternoon today attacked Purna Chandra Jena, the security guard of the Canara Bank branch at Kasanda village under Ranpur police limits and looted Rs 3 lakh. They were overpowered by locals while they were attempting to flee the spot.
Locals taking the law into their own hands thrashed the robbers black and blue. Two of the robbers were killed on the spot and another was seriously injured. The critically injured robber has been admitted to the district headquarters hospital here.
Police on being informed by the bank authorities reached the spot and have seized Rs 3 lakh along with a live bomb from the robbers. Odisha Raj Bhavan gardens open for general public
