Odisha: Crorepati ATM thief arrested, police seized buses, car

Commissionerate police arrested a crorepati ATM thief, who made money cheating gullible people at ATMs and invested in buying buses and car. The police have seized cash worth Rs 60000, a car and two buses purchased with the stolen money from his possession.

Acting on a complaint registered with Khandagiri police station by one Ullash Chandra Mohanty of Baramunda that Rs 20000 has been withdrawn from his account by unknown persons from Ramamani Petrol Pump SBI ATM, commissionerate police swung into action and began investigation into the incident.

Based on the investigation, police arrested Madhab Acharya, a resident of Mahavir Nagar in Salia Sahi under Nayapalli police limits, for his alleged complicity in series of crimes. Madhab hails from Tarande village under Nikirai police limits in Kendrapada district.

Madhav came to Bhubaneswar eight years ago with a sum of Rs 1000 and stayed in Saliasahi slum on rent. A class X drop out, Madhab had started his criminal career in train theft. He used to loot the passengers on moving trains after drugging them on the sly. Later, he switched over to ATM loot.

Interestingly, the accused claims to have learnt the ATM loot technique by watching videos on YouTube. He usually targeted women, elderly persons and uneducated people. On the pretext of the assisting unknown persons, he used to cleverly acquire the password which helped him in doing the unlawful activities.
