Odisha daily labourer’s daughter gets 13 rank in IES exam

The daughter of a daily labourer from Kendrapada, Odisha has secured 13th position in the Indian Economic Service (IES) examination conducted by the UPSC.

Aparajita Priyadarshini Behera, 24, whose father works as a daily labourer at Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative’s (Iffco’s) Paradip plant, has cracked this year’s Indian Economic Service (IES) exam.

Aparajita of Mohanangala village under Mahakalapada block is pursuing Phd in Jawaharlal Nehru University now.

A student of Mohanangala Primary and Kapileswar High School, Aparajita completed her Plus Two and Plus Three from Marshaghai college. She was a college topper and went on to pursue Post-Graduation in Economics in Utkal University.

“I have seen trials and tribulations of life from an early age. My father, toils it out at Iffco’s fertiliser plant in Paradip as a daily labourer. Yet, with great hardship, he provided me the monetary support for studies. I did not let him down. My perseverance, parental support, besides divine blessings, helped me become successful in the IES. I dedicate my success to my father,” Aparajita said.

Teacher of Mohanangala Primary School Prafulla Swain said, “Her achievement has left millions of English-medium students way behind. Now-a-days, almost all the aspirants of various examinations attend coaching classes and pay hefty amount. But Aparajita never joined any coaching class.”

Aparajita’s parents and siblings are overjoyed with her success and the whole village has joined in the celebrations.
