Odisha: Mother of a teenaged girl beaten to death by eve teasers

Tension prevailed in Ganjam district of Odisha after a mother of a teenaged girl was killed because she protested against eve teasers who passed derogatory remarks on her daughter.

According to reports, one Manoj Nahak of Bhabarada and his associates had passed objectionable comments to a girl of the village. The parents of the girl had lodged a complaint with Polasara police in this regard.

Nahak and his friends attacked the girl’s father and mother yesterday when the duo was working at a crop field. Though the father of the girl managed to escape from the spot, the miscreants allegedly thrashed the girl’s mother with an iron rod which led to her death.

The woman, who was rescued in a critical condition, was admitted to hospital where doctors declared her brought dead.

Following this incident the locals blocked a road by placing the body of the deceased and demanding immediate arrest of the accused Manoj Nahak and his acquaintance.

The mob further gheraod and ransacked the Polasara police station and set a police jeep ablaze. The road blockade was withdrawn after Director General of Police of Odisha KB Singh ordered the suspension of Sub Inspector of Polasara police station.

Later seven platoons of police force were deployed to bring the furore under control. However the area still remains tensed.
