11 railway stations in Odisha to be redeveloped by Railways and State

To strengthen rail infrastructure in Odisha, 11 railway stations in State will be redeveloped through a joint venture with the state government, Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu said.

Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Puri, Jharsuguda, Balasore, Bhadrak, Rourkela, Khurda Road and Rayagada are among the 11 stations to be redeveloped under the project.

These premises will be converted into commercial hubs to offer improved passenger services. Besides, Railways will also open a workshop for periodical overhauling of electric locomotives at Kalahandi.

In a historical initiative to connect railway lines to Nabarangpur and Malkangiri districts of Odisha, the Ministry of Railways on Monday signed MoU with Government of Odisha for cost sharing of two new railway line projects.

Accoding to the MoU, Odisha will bear entire land cost and 50% cost of construction of Jeyore- Nabarangpur (38) km, and 25% of total cost of Jeypore-Malkangiri Rail Line Projects.

Notably, the two new line projects viz. Jeypore- Nabarangpur and Jeypore- Malkangiri was included by Indian Railways in the Railway budget 2016-17 subject to requisite approvals from the Odisha government.

During the signing of the MoU, Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Minister for Tribal Affairs Jual Oram, MP Jhina Hikaka, state Transport and Commerce Minister Ramesh Jena were present.
