Odisha youth arrested for fake Facebook account

The cyber crime wing of Odisha Crime Branch arrested a youth in Bhubaneswar for allegedly creating a fake account of a girl on Facebook and posting her pictures taken with him on the social networking site.

Charges under sections 294, 354, 354 (A), 354 (D), 500, 465, 469, 506 of IPC and section 66 (A)/66 (C) of Information Technology (Amendment) Act-2008 have been slapped against the accused, identified as Rajaram Biswal.

Biswal, a resident of Bhimtangi in the Airfield police limits, had befriended the complainant and was later interested in marrying her.

“But, the girl was reluctant to marry him as she considered him only as her friend. The accused was putting pressure on her to marry him and had also threatened her of dire consequences if she did not,” said an officer of the cyber cell.

Later, Rajaram opened a Facebook account in the girl’s name and started posting objectionable photographs on the site. The police said the accused had opened the account in December last year.
