Postal envelope on Ravenshaw University to mark 150 years

Postal department released a special envelope to commemorate the 150 years of existence of Ravenshaw University, the institution which started as an intermediate college in 1868.

Chief Postmaster General, Odisha Circle, Dr Santosh Kumar Kamila released the envelope in the presence of Vice-Chancellor Prakash Chandra Sarangi at KATAKPEX 2017, the two-day district level philatelic exhibition, organised on the premises of Netaji Auditorium of Ravenshaw Collegiate School in Cuttack.

The limited edition special envelopes are collectible items and could soon become any philatelists’ delight. Ravenshaw University procured 1000 envelopes which are now being sold at Rs 10 in a special stall set up on the premises of the university. Students and alumni of the university have shown interest in buying these envelopes. Besides, it will also be sold in post offices across the city.

The special cover of the envelope depicts the front view, Convention Hall, Sundial logo of the sesquicentennial celebration of the university. The university authorities had requested the Department of Posts to bring out a special envelope to commemorate the occasion. The university had also submitted the design of the envelope.

The postal department had also released a special stamp on Ravenshaw University to commemorate the centennial celebration of the then Ravenshaw College.
