Puri medical college and hospital named after Jagannath
The Odisha government on Monday decided to name the proposed medical college and hospital at Puri as Shree Jagannath Medical College and Hospital.
The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) had proposed the name to the government, a press release issued by the chief minister’s office stated.
Chief minister Naveen Patnaik laid the foundation stone of the Puri medical college and hospital on July 4. It is proposed to have 100 MBBS seats.
The hospital is being set up at Puri under the centrally sponsored Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana.
Under the scheme, the estimated budget of the medical college is about Rs 189 crore, of which the Centre will bear 75 per cent.
The State Government will provide 20 acres of land free of cost.
The scheme has provisions to upgrade the District Headquarters Hospitals (DHH) having more than 200 beds to medical colleges.
Puri district headquarters hospital (DHH) has 270 beds.
